RMGC vs Monasteri

RMGC win in Monasteri Sicily

A Pro Am earlier in the year in Monasteri Sicily, brought the opportunity for an inaugural Competition to be organised by Monasteri Golf Club and kindly sponsored by Paul Howes.

What started as a proposed very strong RMGC Team of 8, quickly became 16 (11 Men and 5 Ladies) once Monasteri requested increased numbers to 16 Players.

An enjoyable practise round on the Thursday and an amazing night out in beautiful Syracuse, at a quite superb fish restaurant, including fresh oysters and lobster and decent wine in plenty, the Competition started Friday morning.

Friday and Saturday were tough fought matches and enjoyable golf,in very hot conditions on a challenging course with huge lush, true greens.

RMGC’s younger players, assisted by Henning and Danny and a couple of other’s, went back out for a 2nd round or extra 9 holes on all 3 days !

Singles Friday and 4BBB Matchplay on Saturday concluded in a 7-9 victory for RMGC and the Trophy came to Malta.

A special thanks to Paul and Rebecca Howes for organising and Sponsoring the trip and Andy Holland for Team pairings,Start Sheets and Score Card assistance with Paul and Monasteri.

Not to mention the Friday night Monasteri Hotel Pool Party with the Pizza,Ice Cream and Beer bash, thanks to Paul, Ricky Reeves and JJ Micallef for providing all.

Hopefully Monasteri will visit Malta for the first re-match in the coming year.

Monasteri Golf Club

Monasteri, would be a recommended break for all RMGC Members. due to the course location only 45 minutes drive from Catania Airport and lovely nearby Syracuse and Golf Fee value and a pleasing breakfast. Excellent Hotel complex with newly designed and good sized rooms (Euro 90 per night) and ideal Pool and Spa.

Constructive criticism, is skeleton Staff and very poor daytime and evening Bar & Catering facilities, you need to be aware of,that is unlikely to improve soon, hence our Pizza,Ice Cream & Beer Pool Party!

Accommodation basing in Syracuse should be also considered.

All in all, a great 3 days of golf and fun had by all.

Missing from Team photo, taken by Debbie Borg, were Hollands,Reeves and Janakiev’s,who had left by Saturday early evening, for further family travelling in Sicily.
