Winter rules

With immediate effect, and until further notice, the Captain’s Committee is introducing winter rules to protect the course.

When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in, and playing it from, this relief area:

  • Reference Point: Spot of the original ball
  • Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches (15cm) from the reference point, but with these limits:
    • Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
    • Must be in the general area.

In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

Victor, Captain

Hangover Cup

Thirty-one members of the fifty-four attendees at last night’s Creasy Cup dinner woke up fresh and were ready to battle for the Hangover Cup this morning. The Hangover competition itself has long traditions, and it goes back 70 years pari passu with the Creasy Cup. However, the glass trophy is relatively new and was kindly donated to the RMGC by brothers Richard and Sean Bradshaw.

For obvious reasons, the short orange course was chosen for this non-qualifier. A few decent scores were returned, but none better than Leslie White’s and Carl Zachhau’s 38 stableford points. Leslie edged it on a count-back. Well done Leslie and Carl. Well done to all.

Next weekend we play for the Handicap Challenge Cup, two medal rounds on Saturday and Sunday. A cut may be necessary to limit Sunday’s field to max. 60. Lunch will be offered immediately after the competition.
