McVities QE2 by Strand Agencies Limited.
The game of two halves is something of a cliche but difficult to argue that the Fridays starters had a rough one.
On Friday afternoon, Eileen Borg stormed into the clubhouse suggesting that the competition should have been cancelled, only to then dial it back when he realized she was leading.
And…..that lead was held into Day 2, after a fine 32 pointer given the conditions, edging out Stephanie Sciberras. Well done past Lady Captain 🇮🇪.
A word also for John Scarth – a fine 35 on Friday.
But, it’s a competition over two days and Saturday’s scores prevailed for the Men.
Alex Scudamore returning from injury, continued his fine form to be edged out on count-back by Jack Barritt – 39 points for 3rd place.
Second – after what seemed an eternal wait in the clubhouse, was form player Maurice Grupetta, who’s OOM points will almost certainly see him into the Maltese team for MvR. That’s back to back storming finishes for Maurice, having won last week.
No one loves drama more than Mark Siddall, who characteristically dropped the final card into the box, sat on my shoulder until it was checked, signed it 3 times to be sure…….the result being a win, 25 OOM points, and a huge leap up the Rest Team OOM table into an automatic qualification position. 41 points – some score in what were still not easy conditions.
Well done Mark.
11 players with twos. A brace each for Aleks Vagimov and Andy Featherstone.
A tip of the hat to Ray Calleja, (he remains in our thoughts) and the support of McVities.
Next week is the finale of the Alliance Captains League – expect significant lobbying this week from your Team Captains to make sure that you’re playing. Entries are open.
