In what was a day of days at RMGC, Spring firmly announced its arrival and a full field of over 80 players contested this staple of the RMGC golfing calendar.

Alex Mangion was a father figure of the modern club, an ex Captain and pillar on which the foundation of RMGC is built. Those that knew him continue to speak highly of him, and he was represented today by his son, Matthew.

The shield, donated by the Sliema Lions Club was hotly contested and significant funds were raised from the entry fees and donations. Many thanks for this.

Runner up, with 40 points, proving that form is temporary, but class is permanent, was Kim Borg. Yes…..Kim Borg. He beat several players in the high 30’s, including Maurice Grupetta and another ex Captain, David Debono (39).

However, taking the spoils with an almost Scottie Scheffler like annialation of the field was Maike Beekman, winning by 4 (44 points), and I am sure, no longer off her previous handicap.

Thank you all for your efforts today. The Men’s section now move on to the CL Round 6, this weekend. Entries are open.
