Junior Academy

The Royal Malta Golf Club Junior Academy’s main season runs from the beginning of October to the middle of June and comprises regular training sessions, rules and etiquette sessions, assessments, monthly competitions, junior exchanges, social events such as the Christmas Party and end of season presentation barbecue and off-season training camps both locally and abroad.

The principal goal of the Academy is the promotion of the game of golf, thereby ensuring a healthy future membership base for the RMGC. We aim to provide a fun induction to the game of golf, followed by preparing the young golfers to reach their first sporting objective of obtaining a golf handicap and from there move on to become as good as they can be in their chosen sport. Last season the Junior Academy had more than 50 members, and the training sessions and monthly competitions were well attended. Members of the Junior Academy went on to qualify for and play in international junior tournaments outside Malta.

The coaching staff of the Junior Academy is professional, led by the resident PGA professional Henning Schulze-Doering (who holds a Youth Coaching Diploma from the Semmelweis University of Budapest as well as a valid B and C license for Elite Junior Coaching issued by the German Golf Association) and assisted by 2 qualified coaches and a number of volunteers with broad coaching experience.

The Head of the Academy is Mr Irwin Gratil who manages the young players, the competitions and the junior handicaps, together with a number of sponsors and parents/volunteers who make up the team of the Junior Academy. Together we aim to educate, encourage and above all ensure that the juniors have fun with golf and hopefully decide to continue enjoying the game of golf for as long as they can.
