Our very own ‘Big Man’ Richard Waterhouse wins Konica Minolta Cup Final Longest Drive in South Africa
After qualifying, winning in Malta, Richard Waterhouse arrived in Cape Town with his wife Mary Ann for this fantastic experience. Having spent some time travelling around visiting the obligatory vineyard, various local animals, large mountainous region, non flying birds, two oceans simultaneously, it was time for Richard to get down to some golf.
Konica Minolta hosted and provided the hotel and two great courses to play on and around a total of forty players from a variety of countries, including customers from the Cape and Johannesburg in South Africa.
Day One was at Stellenbosch in the beautiful wine region, with a tree lined course in great condition considering the severe lack of water in the region.
Driving straight and long was a bonus, but the ball was usually able to be rescued if only slightly off line. Day two and out in reverse order at the De Zalze, a fantastic course, and not so forgiving, so keep it on the fairway, mind the water, some tricky holes, and a par four that is drive-able if you take on the water, all carried out and all a huge and enjoyable challenge for Richard!
Scoring better on the second day, but not as well as the overall winner, whom playing off 6, shot one over to win the day. All was not lost, as Konica Minolta provided a prize for the longest drive on the 15th, which Richard duly won with a big smile.
Later that evening Konica Minolta provided a gala dinner at the hotel, and a great night of networking and spending time with new found friends over the three days.
Big thank you to Konica Minolta in Malta and globally for this very kind sponsorship.
