In windy conditions all weekend, sub par scoring was at a premium, as we held the season’s second major, the Laferla Trophy, previously the Wedgewood.
Going into day two, the lead was held by Mark Ganado following the only sub par score from Round 1 (65).
Mark held up well into Day 2 but could only manage to tie for 3rd, with Alexander Haig, both losing on countback to Patrick Balldachio.
Jack Nicklaus, as well as his 18 major wins, featured as runner up in majors no less than 19 times, and it’s been that kind of season for Andy Borg – brilliance on the course only to be pipped by the odd card, and it was the same today. A Gross 68 (35 points) in todays conditions though – great play and enough for another 2nd place.
The last player to win the first two majors of the Season in the professional ranks was Jordan Spieth, and Tim Cleasby continues to strain his Trophy Cabinet by today adding to his win at the Handicap Callenge by lifting the Laferla Trophy by some distance. 2 majors from 2, a Grand Slam is on the cards as is his challenge for OOM honours.
Well done Tim !!
Matching him today, as the only other player to beat par was Gernot MacSchmid. (37)
18 twos overall.
Thank you to Keith, from Laferla Insurance for his support.
