Robert John Earland turned a grand 100 years, today Wednesday 17th January. John was Captain of the Club for the season 1991-1992 having served as vice-captain to Ray Calleja and nominating Jim Boyle to succeed him.

On the eve of his centenary birthday, three ex-captains paid him a visit at his care home in Balzan and found him in his best of spirits albeit somewhat frail. His main recollection remains that of his time as Governor of the Central Bank of Malta spanning 10 months between March 1973 and January 1974. He still cherishes this time fondly declaring the bank as his bank.

The three bridges spanning the penalty areas on the 8th and 11th holes were built through his financial contribution to the Club and are aptly named as the Earland bridges.
