You will no doubt have heard by now of the sweeping set of extra precautions that the Prime Minister announced this lunchtime as a direct result of the alarming increase in numbers of positive COVID19 cases.
With active cases now running at well over 3,000, as a golf club, we feel compelled to introduce further measures to better protect our membership, many of whom are either of an age or classed medically as vulnerable.
With this in mind we are suspending competitive golf of all kinds until the end of March (at which time we will review the situation again). No competition golf will be lost and the season will be extended to accommodate this rescheduling. For the avoidance of any doubt, no competition golf of any nature, including private societies, can take place.
In respect of the new restrictions, the club’s bar and restaurant will be mandatorily closed, but Saffron will be able to offer a takeaway service that must be consumed outside the clubhouse. Saffron are also looking at the feasibility of offering an on-course buggy service.
In terms of booking and playing golf we are asking you to return to playing in groups (bubbles) that you feel comfortable with until COVID numbers return to a safe level. No one will be asked to play with anyone that they are not comfortable with. We are further asking you not to congregate in groups in and around the facilities and to enter the locker rooms one at a time – especially in the clubs locker area where the corridors restrict movement. All existing non-competition bookings currently made will be honoured but if you wish to change those bookings in light of this notice then please feel free to do so.
It goes without saying that we are asking you to be extra vigilant at this time by ensuring that you follow, to the letter, both Government and Club rules in respect of the COVID19 pandemic.
Let me close in once again making you aware of the club’s COVID policy which can be viewed here:-
Yours in golf,
Royal Malta Golf Club
